Home or Away – Is That "Staycation" Right For You?
St Neots residents are just the latest group to join in the growing trend for holidays at home. We asked local people how they were coping without their yearly trip to Toremellinos.
Everton Waresly, an Eynesbury resident, told us that he’d be packing his all-in-one £29.99 Argos 10-man tent, sleeping bags, table & chairs, ground sheets, awning, throw away barbecue and stove in a wheelbarrow and setting off for the St Neots Camping And Caravanning Club Site up Hardwick Road. “Yeah I’ve got a right deal, 6 weeks for £6533.51, issa bargin. Mind you the social is payin, said it would help reduce my stress. And what’s more iss only 200yards from my front door so I can see when the bailiffs turn up!” He added “we normally piss off to Faliraki but you know I got responsibilities these days, I got young kids, keeping them out all night is well wrong. They need to be at least 3 or 4 before we go back there.”
On the other side of town we spoke to Crosshall Road resident Agnes Papworth. “Yah, Everard and I normally spend a couple of weeks in Tuscany, then a day in Rome, move onto Capri, Amalfi and Positano before taking in the French Rivera. Then a hop over to Bermuda, Bahamas and the British Virgin Islands and a 5* 3 week cruise back. We might give Rome a miss this year though.” she said. We asked Ms. Papworth about staying in St Neots for the summer. “Christ no!” she exclaimed “What? With all them chavs unable to afford an Easyjet to Ibiza; it’s going to be like The Jeremy Kyle Show round here. We’re off!”
